Body & Brain Development

Nature's Way
Movement is the foundation for all learning because of the way the brain develops. In the early years the brain grows by processing the physical and sensory stimulation it gets when the body moves.
The more the body moves, the more the brain is stimulated. That feels good so more movement is needed to go get more stimulation!
And of course, all that movement is developing the body at the same time in what becomes a self-perpetuating cycle... learn to move... move to learn.
Isn’t nature a marvel?

Creating a Well-Balanced Diet of Movement
Like nutrition, little ones need a rich, varied diet of movement to ensure the body AND brain are getting what they need. That's because for them, everything begins with the body, including learning. As such, what a child can do with their body determines just how much control they have over their own learning.

Brain Develops
The Brain's Priorities
We think of “learning” as the stuff we’re taught in school. But there are thousands of things that have to happen before the brain is ready to make sense of the ABCs.
The brain has its own priorities. Here’s a quick look at what the brain is doing while your child is moving, playing, and having fun!

Automaticity
Unlocking the Brain for Learning
In the early years, the brain is busy organizing itself for all the learning to come. Key to that is mastering movement, or what we call Automaticity.

How Young Kids Learn
Real-life, physical and sensory experiences create the strong foundations kids need for formal learning.
We say "A is for apple." But that's backwards. Kids learn from reality first. "Apple is for A."
